Falling back in love with reading

"There comes a time when you have to choose between turning the page and closing the book" - Josh Jameson.

Although I am sure there is a deep meaning behind this quote, but I am taking it at face value.
As recently this is a nightly choice for me, it's a tough one but when my eyes feel heavy and will not longer stay open, I just have to admit defeat.

Since moving back home to Birmingham I have feel head over heels back in love with reading. This hasn't always been the case, in fact I use to hate it and the only reason I ever did start reading was because I was diagnosed with severe dyslexia and reading would help. So I reluctantly started and my god I loved it. I quickly found that crime and horror were my favourites and even now Christopher Fowler's Spanky is still in my top 5 books.

Then, University happened. After the countless pages of reading I needed to do for each lecture, the thought of reading for pleasure just turned my stomach, It became a hassle and consequently I hit a wall.

This all changed when I moved to Birmingham over Christmas. My dad, who gets through books at an impossible rate, threw a book on my bed and so began my love and addiction to books. I mean I have brought around 15 new books in a month.
I'm completely addicted, I have recently discovered YA and I love it! They are so easy to read and have some of the most amazing plots, ideas and characters. It just makes me happy and gets me through my long day arduous days at work.

I am currently reading " A Monster Calls" by Patrick Ness, I am only 40 pages in and hoping to finish it this weekend, but I can already tell I am going to love this book. My heart already goes out for poor Conor, will his ill mother and bullying at school. I just hope it's as good as the reviews says it is.

Do you ever find that reading book reviews can ruin the book for you? I do at times. It happened when I was reading 172 Hours on the Moon, not so long ago.

Don't get me wrong, on a whole I did enjoy this book and even found myself checking over my shoulder for doppelgängers, but in some aspects I also found it slightly disappointing. For instance, I just didn't connect with the main characters at all, and towards the end their fate really didn't bother me. The only character I did feel anything for was the homeless gentlemen who was in it for all of five minutes.

I also felt the romantic element of the story was shoe horned in, I felt it wasn't needed and didn't add anything to the story. The story didn't progress because of the romance and I felt the author just picked up the romantic aspects and then dropped then again very quickly towards the end of the book.

I must say I did very much enjoy the ending, although I did kind of know it was coming, it still managed to shock me.

I am sure that there are a great deal of people out there that will completely disagree with me, but we all have different tastes and opinions but is one of the reasons why I love reading and discussing books. Hearing other peoples opinions and interpretations is fascinating to me.

I am sure that there will be more rambling from myself about books as time goes on!

Hope you enjoyed

Hello

Hi all,

My name is Lucy-Alice and I am a twenty something year old graduate who is now working as admin in a school.

I have wanted to write a blog for the longest time but never had the confidence to do it, until some lovely people on twitter gave me the courage and inspiration to just go for.

So now, here I am, writing a blog about my general interests and anything that pops into my head really.

 I hope you enjoy :)
